The Hunku Valley is sparsely inhabited and the trek to Mera is along less populated area than the nearby Everest Base Camp. Heading north through a striking high alpine surroundings, Mera Peak (6,476m) emerges. It is the highest trekking peak in Nepal and its profile towers over the valley. If properly acclimatized, Mera can be easily summitted without technical experience, though strong lungs and legs are recommended. The reward is a view of four of the five highest mountains on earth standing proud over hundreds more, many of which are still unnamed and unclimbed. After the Mera summit, the trail will follow crossing Mingbo La or Tashi Lapcha down to Everest classic route to Chukung or Pangboche, via Thangboche Monastery. The tour completes through Namche and Lukla before flying back to Kathmandu.
