Chulu Far East - 20 days
For a less beaten path, this trek and summit offers a wonderful viewpoint facing the Annapurna Great Barrier. Chulu Massif rises north of the Marshyangdi Khola in the Manang Region in the Manang Himal. A remote area which is drier, being in a rain shadow, offers a different experience of for those who are enchanted with Nepal Himalaya and want a less traveled summit expedition. The Annapurna Himal creates this dry area, giving views of giant glacial moraines, cut by wind erosion, causing incredible pillars to form. Chulu Far East ascent is straight forward. High camp will be placed near the col. From there we follow the long southwest ridge on snow and ice to the summit. There is also a great variety of landscape from the subtropical lower valleys with terraced fields where Gurung people dominate, up to the ethnically and socially remarkable Managba people of the upper valley. Rhododendron and pine forests cover portions of this trail. Following the ascent, we cross the Thorung La, a 5,350m high pass before dropping to Jomsom and the Kali Gandaki River.
